Recover™ New Water Management Policy

RECOVER™ NEW WATER MANAGEMENT POLICY

Water is becoming an increasing physical risk for companies as freshwater resources continue to degrade. This is because sectors, such as textiles, are highly dependent on water to maintain operations. According to WWF Water Risk Filter, companies worldwide have already reported USD 225 billion in financial risks linked to water scarcity, flooding, and water quality impacts.

Unlike conventional cotton production, which depends on water-intensive agricultural and processing activities, Recover’s mechanical recycling process uses only minimal amounts of water to dissolve an antistatic agent and softener used during fiber shredding. This enables Recover to achieve a 99.9% reduction in water use compared to conventional virgin cotton production, reducing the emerging water scarcity risk.

The Recover recycled cotton fiber savings against conventional cotton, according to our Bangladesh and Spain LCA (2022, 2025) validated by EcoReview. Recover recycled cotton fiber uses 99.9% less water than conventional alternatives.

Despite this, we acknowledge our presence in water‑stressed regions and our duty to understand, monitor, and minimize any water‑related impacts. Recover™ is therefore pleased to announce the publishing of its new Water Management Policy, which will start applying in all hubs by 2026. These guidelines reinforce our approach to responsible water use through monitoring, prevention of environmental impacts, and alignment with recognized best practices in water stewardship.

To maximize the effectiveness of this policy, Recover™ conducted a context‑specific assessment of water‑related risks across its operations. While water scarcity is an increasing concern in Spain and Bangladesh, facilities in Vietnam, Bangladesh, and El Salvador are more exposed to heavy rainfall and monsoon patterns, with groundwater also playing a role in supporting operations in Bangladesh and El Salvador. In response, the policy introduces targeted actions, including annual water monitoring and reporting, stormwater management and housekeeping programs, strict permit compliance, and a three‑year update cycle using the Pressure–State–Response framework

All in all, reducing water intensity, protecting local environments, and transparently managing impacts remain central to how Recover™ contributes to a more circular responsible textile industry.
